Dr. Ram is a qualified cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon with expertise in complex adult cardiac, aortic, redo-cardiac and thoracic surgeries and mechanical circulatory support. His special interests include Total arterial revascularization in coronary bypass surgery, mitral and aortic valve repair, minimally invasive mitral and aortic valve surgery, aortic dissection and aneurysm repair, aortic arch repair, cardiac tumor surgery, redo cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplant, mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Ventricular assist device implantation). He also performs lung resection surgeries for lung cancer and surgeries for tuberculous lung disease. He is also an expert in management of thoracic trauma. He has over eight years’ experience in this field.
He is a recipient of various Gold Medals during his training. He graduated in General surgery and Cardiothoracic and Vascular surgery from one of India’s prestigious institute, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry.
He then had his advanced training in aortic valve surgeries from the master of aortic valve repair Prof Hans Joachim Schafers at University of Saarland, Homburg, Germany.
He then completed his fellowship in adult cardiothoracic surgery at the world renowned GreenLane Cardiothoracic Unit, Auckland, New Zealand. He was trained in complex redo cardiac and aortic surgeries and heart and lung transplant surgeries at Auckland under Dr. David Haydock and Dr. Amul Kumar Sibal.
Following which, he pursued further training in advanced adult cardiac surgery and mechanical circulatory support at world renowned Peter Munk Cardiac center, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Canada. During his period at Toronto, he had the opportunity to train from the world’s leading heart transplant and mechanical circulatory support surgeon Dr Vivek Rao and also observe the intricacies of valve surgery under Dr. Tirone David.
During his training, he has authored more than 30 peer reviewed publications in the field of general surgery, cardiac surgery, lung cancer and lung transplant surgery. He has also created a novel thoracic trauma scoring system as a part of his postgraduate thesis during his training at JIPMER.
